At the Anthology Mesa Slam @ Queen's Pizza

Christian Drake is the 2008 Berkeley Grand Slam Champion
and a four-time National Poetry Slam semifinalist. He has been selected
twice to feature on the National Poetry Slam finals stage, and his work has
been covered around the United States and Europe by such luminaries as Andrea
Gibson and Gayle Danley. A former urban forester, planetarium guide, and
aquarium naturalist, he's the world's only "eco-billy" poet: a
little bit environmentalism, a little bit rock and roll. Christian is well-known on the
West Coast as the co-host of the venerable Berkeley Slam and the infamous
Tourette's Without Regrets show, where he mixes blood & guts humor and
political battle cries with contemplative, spiritual imagery. This is nature
poetry filtered through a guitar amp.

In the tradition of Arizona performance poetry, Anthology, the state's longest running performance poetry nonprofit presents the next great Mesa poetry tradition.

Poetry Slam is a competition, where poets perform their work to be judged by the audience based on the presentation and content. The Anthology Poetry Slam has three rounds, and in each round the poets perform in random order, with a 3 minute time limit for each performance.

It's a no holds barred verbal duel that brings out the best in each writer and performer.

    *  This show happens Each and Every Thursday.
    * All shows start at 8PM
    * Suggested Donation is $5
    * Cash Prize awarded for first place

This show also features:

    * The Pad- Pass around a pad for a free-writing excercise for the audience during the show. Some lucky audience person gets to read it at the end.
    * The 60 second Haiku Death Match. A complete best of 5 Haiku slam all done in less than 60 seconds. Between the second and third rounds.

Why it's important

Mesa has a long and vibrant history for poetry in the arts. For the last 15 years, Anthology has been the consistent, driving force behind establishing Mesa as a tremendous place for poetry to be heard and performed. That reputation comes with an investment from you, our community, to make sure that we can always send tremendous and talented poets to perform nationally. They represent you, the good people of Mesa. And, with your small gift, you can ensure that that tradition continues.

Brick Cave Media to introduce "The Stories of Haven" April 1st
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://haven.brickcavemedia.com

Anthology, Inc. and Brick Cave Media (BCM) have announced a new partnership involving the Haven series of superhero stories that appeared in Anthology magazine between 1994-1997. Starting April 1st, 2009, BCM will begin taking submissions and subscriptions for a new series of the stories, with subscribers receiving a new Adobe PDF story delivered by email once per month.

The stories center around the made up city of Haven, where people don masks and costumes to either fight crime or take over the city. The plots can vary far and wide, and they are written by different people.

Writers will be able to write and submit new stories and readers will be able to read new stories from the series.

Says Bob Nelson "This is an excellent way to leverage Anthology's tremendous history and create a new and exciting world for readers to explore and enjoy. Haven was always a popular feature of Anthology magazine, and now it will be a stand alone medium in it's own right."

Joining the Staff at BCM for the Haven stories are Bob Nelson, original Anthology creator and Haven co-creator Joe Giunta, Former Anthology magazine executive editor, an current Board Member Sharon Skinner, Nicholaus Ozment, an original Anthology magazine staffer who wrote some of the original Haven Stories, and Scott Woods, writer and comicfan.

Look for rewritten and cleaned up versions of the original eleven stories to be released starting in April, and subscribers will be able to access special areas of the Haven website to research characters and places in the storyline to use in their own stories.

Says Bob, "The Great thing about Haven, you get to write superhero stories, and you can use anybody's hero in your story, anybody's villian, what have you. It's the greatest writing excercise ever."
