Our invites are accepted. Edward P Mabrey Jr. for Black Pearl Poetry . Mickey Randleman for Tucson. Nikki Gates for HomeBase Poetry Open Mic. Christopher Fox Graham for Sedona. Brian Towne for Flagstaff. Mesa hasn't chosen their rep yet. That means EIGHT slots will be available on May 21st to battle for $100.00. First person on the list will be guaranteed a slot. The remaining 7 will be drawn from Baron Samedi's top hat.
On Friday May 21st, Anthology.org and Club Mardi Gras in Scottsdale, AZ welcome you to the Anthology Invitational Poetry Slam, where poets from around the state will compete for a Grand Prize of $100.00!
Here's how it works - we've asked 7 venues from around the state of Arizona (representing Flagstaff, Sedona, Tempe, Mesa, Phoenix, and Tucson) to send a poet to represent them at the Invitational. The chosen 7 will slam against 7 poets who sign up that night (sign up starts at 8:00, cuts off at 8:30). The 14 of them will compete in a poetry slam using the standard slam rules for the first two rounds. In the 3rd round, things get a little interesting. How interesting? You'll have to see for yourself.
If more than 7 poets sign up the night of the show, names will be drawn randomly from a hat. A top hat once personally worn by Baron Samedi himself... at least, that's what The Klute tell us.
Cover’s only $5.00 dollars, and they’ve got drink specials all night long ($4.00 16 oz. Red Stripes, $4.00 White Russians, $5.00 Stoli drinks) and a wide variety of delicious food too.
So come on out, and watch the best poets from around the state, test your poetic chops to win $100.00, and get to know your poetic peers and rivals!
