Rowie

I am a storyteller. I am a keeper of oral tradition. I come from a community that is part of the Dine people (Navajo Nation) who were once rich with stories songs and prayers for every day of the year. Their didactic methods were so influential that the one line of poetry has derived from these teaching had become imbedded into our spirits; “Walk in Beauty.” My father would sit down with us talk in our Native language and tell us the meaning behind the chants and poetry. This is where my poetry comes from; using my Dine heritage in today’s society this is how I have become a slam poet. I started doing slam poetry in 2006 with NORAZ poets in Flagstaff, AZ. Then migrating down south, where Phoenix Slam, Mesa slam, has been my new home. Women of the World 2009 participant and Tombstone National Slam team 2011.

I have toured across the country in support of my first CD: "What it's like for Girls." After a long hiatus I am reintroducing myself to the poetry scene with my new CD: "Unfinished."
